Just One Tree
The importance of the Almendro tree
The Almendro Tree is so prized for its wood used in construction (it is so dense it is termite proof) that it is now extinct in many locations, including many of the islands in Bocas del Toro.
This tree is a "Keystone Species" and is essential to lowland Caribbean Rainforests. It is also the only tree the highly endangered species, the great green macaw, will use as a nest.
As a way to fight against the Almendro's possible extinction, Planet Rehab launched the project "Just One Tree". This initiative consists in the reforestation of the Almendro Tree in Bocas del Toro, and hopefully in other areas in Panama and Central America.

How our project works
We believe one tree more is a step closer to winning the battle! This is why we grow as many Almendro trees as we can in Green Acres, and assure they are protected and have all the right conditions to grow healthy and happy.
Once they are big enough, we look for the right home for the trees, so they can keep living and growing, and we have some room for new trees. The right home is the one that would assure the tree won't be cut and will be respected as well as any animals or insects that visit it.
We keep a close eye on the tree to make sure it is being protected and is growing safely. At the same time we keep helping to inform local and international communities of the importance of these and other trees, and how we can protect them.
How can YOU help?
We have placed over 150 saplings with locations that are committed to protecting them! Exciting right?
Our goal is to keep planting more trees and you can help us make this possible with a donation.
