PALM OIL APP REVIEWED

A couple weeks ago we heard about this app, PalmOil Scan by the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, which is an invaluable tool for checking if things you might buy contain palm oil, which is often hidden deep in the list of ingredients; or if their parent companies don’t have a good track record with environmental practices. We downloaded the app, opened up the fridge, and started scanning. We were both pleased and educated when we checked several condiments and snacks. We’ll be taking this one shopping with us next time we go to the grocery. You can also contact the parent companies directly from the app to let them know your feelings about their products or practices.

“Now shop with the confidence that you are helping save tropical species and their homes from deforestation. Use PalmOil Scan, produced in collaboration with the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and led by top conservation-minded zoos around the world, to check if the product you are about to purchase is from a company committed to sourcing sustainable palm oil. Our database contains products from 1000’s of brands and 100's of consumer product manufacturers to reveal how committed they are to certified sustainable palm oil.”

App and barcode scanner are currently supported in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
